We strive to continue to find ways to make best use of this hard-earned money, generously donated by so many to Pariyatti.

One of these is to explore ways to optimize our operations. Our goal is to disseminate Dhamma content. With these industry changes, and Pariyatti's additional challenges in serving a niche market with low sales volumes, it has been financially difficult to staff our own warehouse and operations. Year after year, the costs of maintaining our own warehouse has far exceeded the income.

By focusing on what we do best such as make Dhamma content available at low or no costand partnering with others who have already built robust printing, packing, and delivery systems, we free up resources that can be redirected towards expanding Pariyatti's offerings for you. We are always on the lookout for creative ways to make Dhamma content as widely and freely available as possible.

Vipassana, or insight meditation, is the practice of continued close attention to sensation, through which one ultimately sees the true nature of existence. It is believed to be the form of meditation practice taught by the Buddha himself, and although the specific form of the practice may vary, it is the basis of all traditions of Buddhist meditation. At the beginning of the twentieth century, there was an important revival of this early form of meditation practice led by the Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw of Burma.

Which place is best for meditation? The Buddha suggested that either a forest place under a tree or any other very quiet place is best for meditation. How should the meditator sit? He said the meditator should sit quietly and peacefully with legs crossed. How should those with back troubles sit? If sitting with crossed legs proves to be too difficult, other sitting postures may be used. For those with back trouble, a chair is quite acceptable. In any case, sit with your back erect, at a right angle to the ground, but not too stiff.

Why should you sit straight? The reason for sitting straight is not difficult to see. An arched or crooked back will soon bring pain.

To achieve peace of mind, we must make sure our body is at peace. After sitting down, what should you do? Close your eyes. Then place your attention at the belly, at the abdomen. Breathe normally—not forcing your breathing—neither slowing it down nor hastening it. Just a natural breath. What will you become aware of as you breathe in and breathe out? You will become aware of certain sensations as you breathe in and the abdomen rises, and as you breathe out and the abdomen falls.

How should you sharpen your aim?Resources are provided to support students who have completed a course, and for prospective students. For more information about Vipassana meditation, please visit www.

Audio files of S. Goenka conducting one-hour meditation group sits for old students of Vipassana. MP3's and CD's.This summer, my girlfriend and I took part in a 10 day silent Vipassana retreat.

The flavor taught by S. This turned out not to be true for either of us. In order to spare you the discomfort and disappointment we experienced in this retreat, I wrote down in condensed form a couple of thoughts and experiences for you to consider before signing up.

After arrival you are told multiple times that you may not leave in the middle of the course. You are asked to take various vows together with the other students on the first night. You are told you are in a prison and not your own master for the next 10 days.

You are asked to follow all of the teachers instructions and add nothing to it. You may not leave the small course grounds, i. I slept an average of 5h per night instead of normally 7 and ate about a third as much as normal no hunger. There is a great emphasis on inflicting pain e. Requests to change the meditation posture e. During the evening indoctrination talks given via DVD recording you are told that life is full of misery and always will be. You are told Vipassana is to teach you to die with a smile and prepare a better life after rebirth.

You are told the path is very long, possibly multiple lives long, and you must mediate in the Vipassana way 1h every morning and evening and take one 10 day course every year for the rest of your life.

You are told to make this your main spiritual practice from now on. On the bright side…I have to say that the place was beautiful and clean, the food was great and except for the teachers, everybody was very nice to me. When I looked past that and tried to practice in the way they taught, I found waves of anger coming up and being released. Ultimately it has transformed my life in so many ways, I also wrote an article on my experience, but my experience afforded me so many benefits.

As a result, I have since been back for a 3 day, 5 days Buddhist monastery retreat and another 10 days Goenka retreat within 6 months. It weaves an incredibly taut argument about evolutionary adaptive psychology and Buddhist practice and doctrine. Hi, I am just back from a 10 day Vipassana camp at Bodh Gaya, the place where Gautama became the Buddha, enlightened one.

I was completely clueless on the course and blindly trusted my friend who was repeating the course for the fourth time. And was I taken for a royal spin. Many of the products in this section are intended for those who have completed a day Vipassana course as taught by S. Goenka i. Old Students.
